Gravity Table

This project began as a brief study in designing a piece of furniture utilizing wood and concrete as its primary materials. Focusing on the basic properties and semantics of these materials led to a natural structure for the ultimate form of the piece.

In order to emphasize the fundamental nature of the materials, the decision was made to avoid extraneous fasteners or components. Each of the ten elements that make up the table (five of wood and five of concrete), interact directly with the others to stabilize the overall structure. Thanks to these interactions, the table is literally held together by gravity.
